45 RC Do well at ECCA event on August 7th 2010
20th August 2010
20th August 2010
Tom Kruger was fastest junior and 5th overall and with the help of Alan West and "rookie" rider Steve West the 45 RC secured second team place. A great result for all concerned beating some well established strong teams.

Kruger Sets Course Record for Junior
19th August 2010
19th August 2010
Tom Kruger set a new junior course record of 26.32 on the 10.8 mile Whiston Hilly circuit yesterday evening. 18 Aug 2010. All the more impressive when conditions were far from ideal with a stiff headwind on the long Cogenhoe section and rain making cornering tricky. At nearly 2 1/2 minutes faster than second place rider Tom showed his class.
Update on Liam Prior
06th August 2010
06th August 2010
A cyclist has made his first trip home from hospital more than 12 months after being hit by a lorry on the A45.
Liam Prior, 44, was representing Kettering Cycling Club in a time trial on the A45 in June last year when he was hit by the lorry near the Earls Barton turn.
He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but received serious injuries after hitting a metal girder and a concrete block.
A nurse and a firefighter who were in two of the cars in traffic at the time immediately stepped into action – with the nurse resuscitating Liam and the firefighter cutting off his helmet.
Liam was taken to Northampton General Hospital and transferred to the
John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford that night.
More than a year on, he is still recovering from the horrific accident and is in a rehabilitation hospital in Leamington Spa, learning to walk with a physiotherapist and undergoing intensive speech therapy.
But yesterday, he was finally able to come home for the first time and spend some time away from hospital before returning to continue his recuperation.
Partner Jacqui, 49, of Braithwaite Close, Kettering, said: "Liam came home for the first visit yesterday.
"He is still learning to walk and his speech is unintelligible because of the accident damage.
"He has to have a nurse support him all the time, but he is progressing gradually."
Fellow members from Kettering Cycling Club – where Liam was treasurer and time-trial secretary – clubbed together with Welland Valley Cycling Club, the 45 Road Club and Northants Cycle Racing Association to collect £1,701 for him.
But kind-hearted Liam and Jacqui opted to give £1,000 of the cash to the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the remaining £701 to the rehabilitation hospital caring for Liam.
She said although the WNAA had not helped Liam, they had chosen to give cash to the service to highlight its ability to get patients to the hospitals where they can get the best treatment, such as the John Radcliffe hospital, in minutes.
Jacqui said: "We gave £1,000 because it costs them £1,000 a time to go out.
"The money to the rehabilitation hospital in Leamington Spa was for equipment, because some of it was outdated – although it's NHS-funded they don't have a lot of funding and it's voluntary-based."
President of Kettering Cycling Club Bob Hill said members had been asking about how Liam has been getting on.
Mr Hill said: "He has been a very good rider and he has been a very good worker for the club."

Just recevied the following email from Lee, who's mate the Sunday morning run stopped to help this week.
The message they left is: just wanted to say thanks to some of your members who stopped and tried to help on sunday when my mate was in trouble with a loose crank arm.he limped another 5 mile then i had to leave him and fetch the van but your members really tried and have reassured me that there are some good people out there - and most of them seem to bike sunday mornings -- by the way this happened somewhere between creaton and pitsford
Thanks for your kind letter Lee, we appreciate your taking the time to email us.

Club Prize Giving & BBQ - 25th September 2010
26th July 2010
26th July 2010
Hi All
Just to let you know that the Rugby Club (Wellingborough Town Rugby Club, Cut Throat Lane, Great Doddington) and the BBQ are now both booked for 25th September 2010. We will have the hall from 6:30 to 11pm and there will be a bar open for drinks. The BBQ will be open from approx 7pm and then we will be having the prize giving with Clare Ella and Nik Bowdler presenting the prizes.
The cost of tickets will be £8.00 each and you can contact me to book your tickets. I need to know all numbers 2 weeks before the event and will also need to have payment on booking so that I can pay for the hall and BBQ at the event, so cannot sell any tickets for the event on the evening.
If you know of any club members without email addresses, can you please pass on the event details and also if you know of any past members or members of other clubs who would like to come, please pass the details on.
Once again, if you have any trophies, can you please ensure that these are returned to Graham Swannack in good time for the event.
Best wishes
Sarah

45 blowing my own trumpet
I have a little news of my own success last week. I have been in Italy taking part in the Maratona dles Dolimites. There were three sections, basically a figure of 8 course, 55Km, 106 Km, and 136 Km. There were over 8800 starting ………..
I managed the 55Km over 4 mountain passes, in 3:57:49 time, averaging 7 - 10% climbs and results were
58 - 65 yr group: 286 entrants. I was No: 121
55 Km race all ages 1314 entrants. I was No: 785
and some pikkies: http://www.sportograf.de/de/shop/search/695/4022
…. and the profile:
having been with 45 club for only 12 months, a bonus for the veterans? 55K was enough though !!

Tom Kruger has got his other eye in with a 3rd consecutive PB this weekend.
On the same course as last Saturday, F20/10, Tom smashed his time set on Wednesday by 23 seconds to record an impressive 20.36 on what was a good but by no means float evening.
A stiff northerly breeze saw Alan, Tom and Simon average over 29.7 MPH on the out leg with a slowing to 25.5 for Alan and Simon on the return.
Tom, however, came back equally fast as the out leg to average 29.3MPH for his 10 miles.
An impressive ride for a Junior who is now very close to getting the clubs all time record

29th June 2010
29th June 2010
CYCLE4CYNTHIA 2010 - SUNDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER AT FRANKLINS GARDENS (HOME OF THE NORTHAMPTON SAINTS)
Just to explain, Cycle4Cynthia is an annual event which, in the six years it has run so far, has raised an incredible £150,000 for the two benefitting charities - The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Northamptonshire's Macmillan Cancer Support.
We're hoping that this year's C4C can be our 'magnificent seventh' and to that end, as promised, I have attached a poster with all the details of the event. As you said, if you would be kind enough to add the details to your website, that would be fantastic - and indeed please do email it on to other cyclists whom you think might like to take part. We simply want to ensure that as many cyclists as possible get to hear about it!
This year the challenge is to encourage 1000+ cyclists to leap into their saddles with the aim of raising more than £50k - and with your help, we can do it. Entry is £10 per person and then it's a case of riders gathering as much sponsorship as they possibly can, all of which will go to these two most deserving of local causes. There are three distances from which riders can chose - 5, 25 and 50m - but it's not a race! All people need is access to two wheels, an enthusiasm for supporting the two charities and a desire to have fun at the same time! Further details can be found at www.cycle4cynthia.co.uk and that is where potential riders can also download entry and sponsorship forms.
I would be most grateful if you can help spread the word in what ever way you see fit - and on that note, if you wanted to enter a 45 Road Club team (great for publicity!) - please do let me know. It's a minimum of four per team and you can take it as seriously or as light-heartedly as you like...including doing the ride in fancy dress if you want to! For inspiration, I have also attached the photo of last year's superheroes team who, not surprisingly, won the best fancy dress prize!
Finally, we're working very hard towards securing the services of a high profile celebrity to open this year's event; last year we were delighted to have singer-songwriter Curtis Stigers perform the official duties - and this is what he said when we told him we had raised £36k....
"Fantastic work! I was thrilled and proud to be part of the event. It was a lovely experience for me. Very emotional, very inspiring. Thank you for asking me to participate."
Once again, thanks so much in helping us to help those with cancer and their families here in Northamptonshire.
Best wishes

Dear All
Ok a play on times but three of us went to Newark on Saturday to do the Sherwood CC 25 mile TT on the A1.
Tom Kruger, Simon Fitzhugh and Alan West all came within a handful of seconds of each other to finish with a middle 56 mins for the 25 miles on what was a good evening. For Alan and Simon this was the first 25 TT of the year and were reasonably happy with the times. Tom, having completed his second at this distance this year and only his 5th ever at 25 miles, was a little disappointed having set a good middle 55 the week before on the same course.
No notification for the team prize yet but we may have a good chance with 3 consistent rides.
See you all Wednesday for the Earls Barton 10.

Dear All
Another great evening for the 45 road club at the NCRA round 2 Middleton.
Alan West took an impressive win out sprinting the bunch on a draggy uphill finish. Still accelerating on the line Cav style, Alan was a clear winner. Congratulations to him who now is clear in front points wise to retain his series win from last year. Lets hope the handicapper is not to harsh for the next rounds.
Simon and Martin did a sterling job keeping the bunch moving through at a good pace to hold off the chasing scratch group which contained Tom Kruger. Martin pulled the bunch along the last 5km at such a pace that any attacks failed as soon as they poked their nose out into the wind. Strong lad indeed!
Tom again suffered from the scratch group, containing mainly one team, not working together and so was about a minute down on the line. Ian worked hard to stay with the bunch but I didn't notice where he finished.
All this on a wet road with grit and sun glare from wet glasses meant an exciting race but thankfully all got home safe.
Next week Sawtry on Thursday.
Don't forget the Tour series is a Kettering this week. Race starts at 7.00pm.

Tom Kruger - AA Brown Road Race
30th May 2010
30th May 2010
Tom had a great result in coming 2nd at the Welland Valley CC promoted AA Brown Road Race at Tur Langton on Sunday 30/5 .
It was a very tough windy morning and the short circuit around Tur Langton and Church Langton provided great spectator viewing as we had 13 laps to complete.
This link should take you to the Welland Valley website and the write up of the event;
http://www.wellandvalleycc.co.uk/Home/tabid/276/itemid/1823/Default.aspx
Out of the 38 mile race Tom Kruger and Kevin Potter (Plan B Racing) had been out together for 24 miles of it. Kevin Potter was very gracious in allowing Tom to take the 2nd place as he was totally spent near the end and recognised the majority of the work had been done by Tom to keep them in front. Kevin was full of praise for Tom at the end and it seemed like Tom had made a good race companion there!

Well Done Tom!
24th May 2010
A big well done to Tom this weekend for finishing 26th in the Junior section of the National 10 with a time of 22:13. I went down at the weekend to watch and take photographs and my hat goes off to all those that raced. It was the hottest weekend of the year so far and without shade from trees on a mostly dual carriageway course it was very hard.
Tom will be back for his final national as a junior next year and with the way he is improving, I think he could get even higher in the placings.

As those of you who raced last Wednesday will know, the new 10 mile Chelveston based course was plagued with traffic lights. We still managed to race on a revised 6 mile course and eventually managed to open the village hall for tea & cakes, thanks to one of our new young members Chris.
If the traffice lights are still in place this week, we will be running a revised 8 mile course and I have put a pdf of the course with our other maps on site and also Here.
We will once again be opening the village hall (fingers crossed) at 6:30 and the race will start at 7:30. The hall is booked until 9:30 and you are welcome to leave any kit at the hall whilst you race as there will be someone there to look after it.
